Be Prepared - Emergency Home Plan

Disruptions to essential services such as electricity, water and gas supplies can have a significant impact on our daily lives. 

To help you and your family deal with such an emergency you should create your own Home Emergency Plan now and keep it safe so you can find it if you ever need it. 

Remember to have a paper copy so you can access it when you are unable to access your computer / mobile devices.

If you are advised to stay indoors.

Go inside and stay inside.

Tune in to your local tv, radio or the internet for regular updates. 

In case you have to leave your property in an emergency it is a good idea to have agreed with the members of your household where you should meet up. 

Agree a meeting place that is close to home and in case you are unable to meet at the local meeting place agree a meeting place that is further away.

If you have to leave your home, take everyone with you and stay out until you are told you can return. 

If possible, check on vulnerable neighbours. 

Agree with a relative or friend that stays out with your area to contact them to let them know that you are okay.

Local rest centre – find out where your local rest centre(s) is and include details (address / tel no/ website) in your plan. 

 

Be prepared and have an Emergency Kit ready in case of an emergency.  It should include:

Essential items include:

  • Bottled water
  • First aid kit (including essential medicines)
  • Radio (batteries and spare batteries)
  • Torch (batteries and spare batteries)
  • Identity documents (passport / driving licence)
  • Change of clothes (warm jumpers / blankets)
  • Mobile phone charger (ideally a portable charger)
  • Money (cash and card)

Additional items

  • Spare keys for property and car
  • Spare glasses / contact lens
  • Notebook and pens/pencils
  • Insurance documents / birth certificates

 

Please remember to keep the plan safe and in a place that you can get to in the event of an emergency.
