A new toolkit has been published to help cut the number of drug-related deaths in Aberdeen.
The resource has been produced by Aberdeen Alcohol & Drugs Partnership (ADP) and highlights the fact that 50 people died from an overdose in the city in 2018 – and 257 since 2014. The average age of death is 46 and the commonest cause involves opiate use.
ADP Team Leader Simon Rayner said: “Drug-related deaths are preventable and simple actions could help to reduce the number of deaths in the future.
“Our new toolkit brings together a comprehensive range of information in one place for the first time and will help organisations and individuals to take action to reduce the risk of overdose among the people they work with and know.”
The toolkit covers:
- recognising signs and symptoms
- knowing what to do
- issues for organisations to discuss when developing best-practice actions to take
- links to a wealth of further information and resources.
