The Public Bodies (Joint Working)(Scotland) Act 2014 requires us to configure Aberdeen’s geographical area into at least two localities to enable the effective planning and delivery of our integrated services.

A Locality is defined as an area that relates to natural communities; localities should be large enough to offer sufficient scope for service improvement but small enough to feel local and real for those people who live there.

In line with the Scottish Government’s guidance we are proposing to base our localities on the four existing GP cluster areas that have existed for a number of years so that we can take advantage of established relationships and activities.  Our proposed localities are: Aberdeen North, Aberdeen Central, Aberdeen West and Aberdeen South.

Defining our localities in this way will help us understand better the health and wellbeing of the local population in those areas and aid the effective planning of our integrated services.
